Symptom: user installed Mcafee on Vista Home. Internet connectivity lost. LAN and router ping OK. Tried opendns as static DNS server. Can PING OPENDNS by IP address.

Fix: from command line as administrator:

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

Reboot.

Problem solved.
